The Heathen Days at Ball State University

During my undergraduate years at Ball State University (the Harvard of Muncie), I embraced the philosophy that “C’s get Degrees,” a sentiment famously echoed by BSU alum David Letterman. I confess, my approach to academics was rather lackadaisical. I hardly studied and focused more on the social aspects of college life. Looking back, it was a time of exploration, self-discovery, and perhaps a bit too much partying.

A Professional Awakening

It wasn’t until I entered the professional world that I realized the importance of education. As I pursued my career, the value of a solid academic foundation became increasingly evident. David Letterman’s witty saying, while amusing, no longer seemed like the most practical advice. This realization prompted me to take my studies more seriously.

Mastering the MBA at Indiana Wesleyan University

Seeking a path of growth and advancement, I decided to pursue an MBA at Indiana Wesleyan University. This chapter of my academic journey marked a significant shift in my mindset. With a newfound dedication to learning, I graduated with a 3.9 GPA, proud of the knowledge and skills I had acquired. The experience at IWU was transformative, both professionally and personally.

The College Conundrum

However, the more I delved into higher education, the more I began questioning its traditional structure. It became apparent that the cost and time invested in obtaining a degree, unless in STEM fields, might not always align with the practical skills needed in the real world. This realization led me to question the conventional wisdom surrounding the necessity of a college education for everyone.

College as a Scam? The Trade Alternative

As I reflect on my academic journey, I can’t help but ponder whether the traditional college route is a one-size-fits-all solution. The rise of online resources and the accessibility of trade skills through the internet present compelling alternatives. For many, investing in a trade and leveraging the vast information available online might be a more practical and cost-effective path to success.
